Dear Local Jetsetter,
What inspired your move to 30A? You have a free day to enjoy your favorite eats and places - what's your game plan? How do you make time for rest & play? What's your number one tip for experiencing 30A like a local?
Love yall! KC
Dear Kelli,
The biggest reason for our move was to give our daughter a better life. Coming from New Orleans - the schools, safety and lack of family friendly activities was not the environment we wanted to raise her in. The more we visited South Walton, the more we realized how strong the community is, and bonus - they were growing the same things we wanted for our family: amazing schools, safety, creative businesses and endless family friendly fun. SO many evolving opportunities here and it feels like we're meant to call this place home in every respect.
On Highway 30A - Brunch: Crackings, Lunch: Chanticleer Eatery, Dinner: Borago with relaxing beach time in between! You know you can't go wrong with any breakfast items at Crackings! We love dining al fresco at Chanticleer Eatery for their lunch specials. Delicious sandwiches, soups, salads and desserts feel like the ideal lunch here where you will run into a lot of locals. Borago is our favorite Italian restaurant in the area where you can find us dining at the bar, cutting up with the friendly bartenders and ordering their off-menu "Priscilla Pasta". Off Highway 30A on Hwy. 98 & Hwy. 331 - Brunch: Donut Hole, Lunch: Thai Chiang Rai, Dinner: Farm & Fire. Donut Hole goes way back and has that old-school diner feel with awesome donuts of course, and big breakfast and lunch portions served all day long with all of the fixins'. Our favorite Thai restaurant in South Walton is Thai Chiang Rai offering authentic cuisine cooked with organic and local ingredients. You can't beat their lunch specials and their food is addicting! Farm & Fire has been ranked our #1 restaurant in the area because of their diverse menu covering favorites like pizza, sushi, Asian and Southern inspired dishes, rotating specials and incredible cocktails! Go for sunset and see beautiful views of the sun setting over the bay and the 331 bridge. Moral of the story: You don't have to dine at the same places every visit solely on 30A. South Walton has a lot of culture and flavor to offer if you're willing to branch outside of the 30A bubble.
This is a loaded question for us serial entrepreneurs haha! We try to designate Sundays as a day of rest with no work. Spending quality time with family or reminding ourselves to live intentional, well rounded lives that include things like reading books, cooking homemade meals, playing board games, exercising and taking care of our mental health. Always trying to find the balance!
Ask a local where to go and what to do! There's a ton of info. and recommendations out there, but a true local will steer you in the right direction so you're not doing the same things every time you visit and know what's new and noteworthy to explore! Visitors tend to get into a routine when they visit and stick with their favorites year after year, but South Walton is growing rapidly and there are so many new things to experience. (P.S. - Most locals steer clear of Highway 30A during busy seasons, don't actually live on 30A and frequent restaurants on Hwy. 98, Hwy. 331 and in Freeport.)
